Kelly A. Thompson

Ms. Thompson has worked in the trusts and estates field since 1977, as both a trust banker and a trusts and estates attorney.  Ms. Thompson’s current practice handles all aspects of estate planning, but focuses on planning for persons with special needs.  She a member of The Special Needs Alliance, a national group of attorneys serving the legal needs of persons with disabilities and a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.

Ms. Thompson received her undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia, and her law degree from the Fordham University School of Law.  She is admitted to practice in Virginia, the District of Columbia, and New York.

As a native of Northern Virginia, Ms. Thompson is dedicated to serving the Northern Virginia community.  She is an active volunteer with The Arc of Northern Virginia, and serves as counsel for the pooled special needs trust sponsored by that organization.  She also serves on the Legal Advisors group for the Multiple Sclerosis Society, National Capital Chapter.  Ms. Thompson has previously served on the Board of Directors of Capital Hospice, Governing Board of the Trusts and Estates section of the Virginia State Bar, and is a past president of both the Northern Virginia Estate Planning Council and Northern Virginia chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Ms. Thompson has been honored by Virginia Lawyers Weekly as a “Leader in the Law” and has consistently been recognized in the Washingtonian Top Lawyers listing as well as Super Lawyers and America’s Best Lawyers.
