UPDATE: On December 19, 2014 President Obama signed the Disabled Military Child Protection Act. This new provision in the law was a part of the National Defense Authorization Act and now allows a military parent to provide a survivor benefit for a disabled child by paying it to a special needs trust for that child’s benefit.
